Barclays Bank
Beware of Barclays (ABSA in SA) email!

An email **** has been doing the rounds this week, claiming money has been paid into your Barclays Bank account. The email contains an attachment, supposedly showing the transaction details, but with keystroke capture code, enabling a hacker to access your (any other) bank account.

I do not have a Barclays account, but I do have an ABSA credit card (a bank in which Barclays has 57% shares), so I feel that my ABSA account can be at risk too, as the systems are interlinked.

After some VERY expensive international calls to the Barclays Contact Centre and Internet security lines, I have received NO assurance that Barclays is protecting my information. The service agents said it is not their problem and the customer is to provide his own security.

Yes, this **** is perpetrated by a 3rd party. What really concerns me, is Barclays' disinterest in helping their customer address this problem. It seems that Barclays is not even investigating the abuse of their good name.

If your bank is so disinterested in protecting the money you entrusted to them, then maybe it might be a good idea to switch to a bank that does.
