I'm working overseas at the moment, but the fixed term portion of my mortgage in the UK comes to an end this month, and I wanted to log into my online banking to see if there was any advice on the site as to what my payments would change to, and what other mortgage products I could switch to, etc.
I remember my password, but not my "memorable information". No hint available. I click Reset Password and Memorable Information (you can't just reset the latter) and it tells me to phone a UK number with a reference number. I do this - from overseas. Costing loads. Eventually we get to the point on the phone where they tell me that because I'm a mortgage-only customer, the ONLY way to finish the reset is to come into a branch. For an online service. I'm working in South Africa.
Ironically, I think I remember my memorable information now, but they say I can't "unreset" the password, so I'm stuck in limbo where I can't finish the reset and can't cancel it.
Basically: Halifax. Your online component relies on someone having easy access to a branch. That costs you money and makes you look stupid. How can I reset my password without spending? 1000 on a plane ticket?
