I moved to London recently and I was looking to rent a flat in a good area. Searching via several estate agencies I came across Foxtons as well.
The agency seemed like professional company and the flat I saw really nice so I decided to take it. I signed the tenancy agreement with Foxtons, provided them with the relevant references and even gave them my credit cards details (along with the details of my partner).
And that is when things start to go wrong; Foxtons tried to charge my card twice for 6 weeks of rent, "luckily" with their second try to charge me the transaction was declined because they already took so much money from my credit card that it blocked my card's credit.
My partner's credit card was also charged twice without his authorisation.
Two days later Foxtons called us to let us know that our references arrived and they are perfect but unfortunately they let the flat to someone else that offered higher renting amount, and this is after we already signed the contract with them.
Apparently Foxtons tricked is and instead of signing the contract in the correct place they signed the page intended for the tenants so the agreement wasn't valid.
To conclude I will advise to stay AWAY form this company and not to be fulled by their fancy suits and cool designed offices, they will lie to you and scam you just to get what they want, and once they will have your money they will not care about you.
