EBay
Harassment Derby

I would just like to share with people an experience I have had recently with Ebay which has disgusted me and ensured that I will never use them again.

I will also be posting this story to as many consumer websites as possible and telling everyone who I know about it.

I have an old eBay account which I no longer use and do not know the password or ID for.

On the 18th September I received a letter from a Debt Collection company called NCO, demanding payment of 19.25. The letter had no details of what the money related to, other than a small Ref-eBay' quote in the top right corner. The letter was quite threatening and stated that they would seek to obtain this money by any means necessary as they were not in the process of writing off debts.

This was the first I had heard of any such debt that I owed to anyone, but I assumed it had something to do with eBay due to the reference.

I emailed NCO back the same day asking if they could send me details of the goods which I owed the money for, as I no longer used my eBay account, but if there was something outstanding I would pay it once they advised me of the details. NCO or Ebay did not reply to me and just ignored me.

On the 25th September I received a 2nd letter from NCO stating that they had contacted me numerous' times and would now be looking to pursue the matter further if I did not pay within 7 days. The letter still did not list any goods or services or refer to my request to them for details. I replied the same day, by email and by post to NCO, asking if they could please just send me details of what I was paying for, as I could not log into my eBay account, and fel t that it was only reasonable that they should detail the goods or services which I was being asked to pay for.

Yet again, NCO and eBay ignored me.

Today I have received a letter from a company called S.C. Leatham-Locke LLB stating that if i do not pay within 72 hours they will advise eBay to launch legal action against me. Again the letter does not list what I am actually paying for or acknowledge the fact that I have sent them 2 emails and a letter requesting details.

I am quite offended that eBay has resorted to such harassment and bully boy tactics for an amount so small, and have ignored all my requests for a simple list of what the 19.25 relates to. I also find this quite unprofessional to keep ignoring my responses and blindly demanding money from me. The company NCO have even twisted the truth, stating in their 2nd letter that they contacted me numerous' times, when they had actually only written to me once and even then, ignored my reply to them. If they would have simply listed the details I requested, this could have been easily settled.

I am currently unemployed, and live with my father who has Parkinsons Disease and mother who has severe asthma. Needless to say, such harassment and threats have been quite distressing for my whole family.

I would just like to warn people of my experience and hope that eBay will be happy now that they have obtained their 19.25, whatever it may have been for.
