I followed the instructions on the website to sign up for Nero9 - which I thought was going to cost me US$11.98 to download. Nowhere in the sign-up process did the website inform me there would be further charges added to my credit card.
In the email I received from the company to confirm my "membership", I had been charged:
$35.94 for a 3-year membership
$17.88 for XP Tools
$17.88 for SpyRemover
$14.97 for New Releases and Technical Support
For a total charge of US$86.67. With the current exchange rate, this cost me NZ$150.
I had downloaded Nero9, which took FOREVER, but I was unable to use it, because no serial number was provided.
I emailed [email protected] with the instruction to cancel my "membership" and refund the money. In reply, I got a mass-produced email extolling the virtues of subscribing to Help Me Download's services, and no promise to cancel the membership or refund any money.
I sent another email, reiterating my desire for a cancellation / refund, and advising of my inability to use the software because of the lack of a serial number. No reply.
My credit card was subsequently charged, a month later, with a further US$14.97 (NZ$28). Realising I was being unceremoniously ripped off, I cancelled my credit card.
Don't get sucked in like I did. Help Me Download.com are a bunch of crooks.
