Free Credit Score/Check
U7nauthorised payments debited from my account

On 4th November I noticed an authorised transaction for £19.95 on my credit card account on my October bill from Quick Credit Score. I checked some previous bills to discover that they have been debiting this money each month since March.

I immediately called my bank to investigate and reported that they were unauthorised transactions and that the box had popped up advertising a free credit check, whilst I was using my online banking service and it appeared to be from the bank. I was informed that they would send me out a form to complete and return regarding this matter. I did not receive the form and called the bank again on 15th November to follow up my initial call. They informed me that the forms could take a few days to arrive and at that point I queried the transaction again as they told me that it was a monthly subscription to this company and I would need to cancel it myself. I said I had no contact details and the person I spoke to gave me gave me the phone number. I called on that day and was told that I had signed up for the service and it was up to me to cancel the monthly subscription, as I had been advised of this in an email. I told them that as i did not even complete the process regarding the credit check, I would not have been aware of any email from such a company, therefore had it arrived, I must have deleted it as 'spam.' I was told that it was my responsibility as I had agreed to their terms and conditions.

I repeated that I had not completed the transaction and would not have agreed to any monthly subscriptions coming from my credit card account. On my enquiry I was horrified to learn that they had debited a further £19.95 on 13th November, despite my contacting the bank prior to this date to stop the transactions. When I contacted my bank again they told me that this was because the subscription is still active. I informed them that I was very unhappy about that payment being made, since I had informed them prior to that date that I had not authorised this company to deduct this money. I called Quick Credit Score and their attitude was very blasé and told me that I would have to cancel it myself otherwise they would continue to deduct the money. They then told me that I had to log in using my membership number and password, neither of which I had. They gave me a membership number and had to go through a lengthy process to enable me to continue the process. At this time I still have not managed to cancel this. I think companies like this should be prosecuted as they are illegally advertising a service which is not what it appears and there is no evident information to identify that there would be a subscription charge if the applicant doesn't cancel within the designated period. I want to know how they managed to collect my payments when I aborted the process before completion.
