I had an appointment in Hazel Grove branch of Edward Mellor in Stockport with a mortgage broker Grindey Chris. I would like to make a complaint about unprofessional behaviour of mortgage broker whom I saw on Thursday at 6pm on the 17th of March in Hazel Grove branch in Stockport. The estate agent from Marple made an appointment for me with him. The agent told me that I need to have checks done in order for my offer to go through. My husband especially took 1 hour off from work and brought all the documents. The broker kept insisting on taking a mortgage from him. We refused a couple of times firmly and at the same time proposed him the documents we brought for him to carry the checks. The broker took only a copy of passport and 2 bank statements and said that he does not need anything else. The appointment took 5 minutes.
Then the next day he spoke to the agent and said that we refused him doing any checks. The appointment was only to make checks, I made it clear with the agent, but unfortunately this seemed to be not the case with the broker. As soon as he found that he won't get any commission, won't sell anything to us, he finished the appointment very quickly and assured us that we are ok and he got everything he needed.
It is very wrong to force a client to take a mortgage from the broker as otherwise he won't be able to buy the house.
