I purchased an adult web site over four years ago for 5000 with the promise that it would make me lots of money. The company would do all promotion of the site; all I had to do was sit back and bank the cheques! Well, as you can probably guess very little money (less than 100 in total) ever came my way. Every time I contacted them they would make some excuse and I had little option other than to accept the situation and hope.
This situation continued for several years. Every so often I would contact them by email but they would write back saying they were having difficulty recruiting members and so on. A few months back the website suddenly disappeared off the World Wide Web.
I understand that they moved from the UK to the USA some time ago and left no forwarding address!
