Sony
Sony Warranty avoidance claiming Water Damage

I bought a Sony Vaio Laptop for my son for Christmas. At the end of January it stopped working, with no power light. I tok the laptop in to the dealer I bought it from (Comet) and they confirmed, by plugging it in in the shop, that the problem was not with the power pack but with the laptop, itself.

I was advised to send it in to the Sony Repair centre, which I did. I was then contacted by Sony, who informed me that the problem was due to water damage and was not covered by warranty. I explained that any water damage could not have occurred while the laptop was in my possession and I expected Sony to remedy the situation.

Part of the problem seems to be that Sony have outsourced their repair facility to a third party so you are left dealing with an organisation to whom you are not a customer.

Having been a loyal, even enthusiastic, Sony customer my faith in sony is now completely destroyed.

There's still time for Sony to remedy the situation, though and I'll update this if anything changes.
