I booked a large apartment suite for myself, my girlfriend and four of my close friends in Tenerife. We specifically requested this set up to save on the costs of accommodation and because we are all a reasonably quiet bunch. The booking was through Karen Durant because she was full of promises and smiles which I now know to be a pack of festering lies. We booked the accommodation 1 week before departure. Less than 24 hours before we were to catch our flight, Karen had emailed me and then phoned my girlfriend tosay that the hotel we had booked was unable to take us because they had let our room out to another party. She said she would have to find an alternative accommodation at the same value or higher. My girlfriend asked " what if we don't like that? Can we get our money back? ". Karen responded with " we'll discuss that after you see the new apartments ". We arrived at the apartments the next day. Not only did we not get the single property requested, but my friends apartment was on the other side of the complex. Karen said that we would be right beside eachother, this was not the case. The apartments were of inferior quality to what we expected. They were also unsafe smelled very stale. The furniture was very flimsy and I worried that it would simply fall apart if someone touched it. We decided to make the most of it and just get on with the holiday despite our disappointment. We are not the type to complain. On one particular night, my girlfriends bag was stolen with both apartment keys and some cash. We returned to our apartment and informed security of our situation. For no particular reason, they refused to help or to let us into our accommodations until the morning when the other security guard arrived. Our money was in the apartments and we had little choice but to break a window to gain entry into one of the apartments. We paid for the damage in the morning, but we should not have been forced to take such action. Our apartment was fine when we left (infact we left it in much better condition than it was in when we arrived). The second apartment was checked. A plastic clothes horse had been broken (claimed value 36). A plastic childs chair was broken (claimed value 9). These items were broken by one in our party by accident. He sat in the kids plastic chair, it broke and he fell back into the clothes horse and broke it. An honest accident which we can admit to. However, when we returned home, Karen durant sent the following damage list to me. (i have changed the font style to stand out). Dear Anthony, I regret to hear that there was damage to the apartment 007 on Parque Santiago I, which you have booked from us for your holiday 31st August - 7th September. I have received this bill from the caretaker of the apartment: CLIENTS REID GLASS SHELVE IN THE FRIDGE SMASHED 15 BED LEG NEAREST WARDROBE BROKEN IN 2 16 SIDE OF THE WOODEN WELSH DRESSER IN THE LIVING ROOM HAS A FIST THROUGH IT 60 CLOTHES DRYER ON TERRACE COMPLETELY BROKEN 36 CHILDS TERRACE CHAIR 9 BRUSH AND STICK BROKEN IN HALF 5 4 X BED COVERS COVERED WITH URINE SOFA COVERS WHICH HAD JUST BEEN CLEANED 24 LAUNDRY BILL 4 X TOWELS MISSING 24 REPLACEMENT COST KITCHEN TABLE HAD RUBBISH BAGS LEFT ON IT WHICH HA STAINED IT ALL, COST OF SANDING AND RE VARNISH 60 DUE TO CONDITION THAT THE APARTMENT WAS LEFT IN AND 12 BAGS OF RUBBISH REMOVED CLEANERS HAVE CHARGED A EXTRA 25 TO COVER THERE TIME 25 TOTAL COST 274 The equivalent cost in pound sterling is 246. You have already paid a security bond of 100. This leaves a balance to pay of 146. One exception is the damage to the bed, but the leg was already very loose and we should have reported this on arrival. Our mistake! The leg broke during our stay. The owner of the apartment noted the damage to the chair and clothes horse. She didn't mention anything about the bed, and I assume this is because she was aware of the damage to the leg. Nothing else was mentioned. We expected the damage to the chair and clothes horse to be taken from our deposit of 100. This was not the case as you can see from the above. Karen has not provided any photographic proof of damage (because there is none apart from what was noted). My girlfriend checked the apartment just in case there was any mess left behind from the lads. We took the garbage bags to the disposal area and left the lads apartment in good order. I demanded receipts for the so-called damages and Karen has sent me an email to say she will send them in the post. I am very angry about the entire situation and really feel RIPPED OFF. My girlfriends brother has advised me to make an official complaint and demand a charge back to my mothers credit card. He said I should only pay for damage caused. This was the damage to the terrace furniture. AVOID KAREN DURANT. SHE IS FULL OF LIES. Regards
