Vivitar
Lost one of the two faulty cameras I returned to them

Hi,

My brother bought two Vivitar 'ViviCam 5355' cameras on sale at the airport in Exeter, England.
We opened one up, and the picture on the screen was red. The other camera was fine. Then the next day, the other camera went red as well! So I phoned up the nearest Vivitar service centre, in England (I live in Ireland). They said send it back to us.

I thought first of all of sending both of the boxes they came in, but then to post them to England will be expensive enough, so I fitted both cameras, with all accessories, into one of the boxes. I was a bit afraid that they might think there was only one camera in there, so I tried to make it as obvious as possible: I put both warranties clearly on the top of all, and my cover letter on top of that, stating that I was sending back two cameras, which both had faulty red screens.
I boxed that up carefully, sealing the sides, and sent it off.

About a week and a half later, I received a responding letter from Vivitar UK. They returned the receipt I had send them for the purchases, and said they had received 'the product'.

I was a bit worried at their wording - non-plural - but thought, well, these letters often make mistakes, they probably just weren't that meticulous.

On Friday the 11th of April, about two weeks later, I received in the post one Vivitar replacement camera.

I phoned them up, rather worried, but thinking maybe another one was in the post. They said they only had one logged on their computer. The lady I was talking to then put me on a long hold, and when she came back on said that they were sure that they only received one camera, and ONE SET OF ACCESSORIES.!! Worst nightmare!!

OK, obviously there's a mess-up here! I accept that they think they are very careful and meticulous; but they claim to had received one camera, with all its (single) accessories, and the cover letter and receipt: - and we both agreed to the impossibility of the post having been tampered with! -It is not possible one camera and all the associated bits could have been removed - they aren't worth that much; the instruction leaflets etc were all together; what did someone carefully separate them out?! Plus the box was untampered with, etc. - But otherwise, how could they have received only one camera, with only one set of accessories?! Impossible! The only possibility is the person unpacking was not particularly conscientious, thought there should be only one in a box, and wasn't careful to look and was careless and didn't really pay attention. But on my side, my dad was with me when we packed up the cameras, we were very careful, and I KNOW I packed two.

It's easy for them to say the problem isn't their side, but I KNOW it is - there's no other possibility.
Errors do happen - the person could have had a few cameras out, and mixed them up - sent another person two cameras, or anything. Obviously that person isn't going to come up and say 'hey it's my fault.'

they say their return process is very meticulous: only one person deals with faulty returns, they check the box carefully to make sure nothing of the customers has been left in the box, then the box goes for recycling and if anything was left in the box, the recycling people return it to them.

Anyway, they're ignoring my claim, claiming to be right, when it's obvious they aren't. They suck!
