This is almost two years ago but i really was traumatized working for this company.
Everything written by Alex about the marketing company he worked for in Liverpool seems to ring true everywhere in the country if you had the misfortune of being roped into this Organization. EVERYTHING Alex wrote is true and i actually never went to a road trip to his office to meet them but almost everything that happened to him happened to me.
One Way is situated in Southampton in a swanky office complex but very basic.they advertised and seemed to offer everything a post grad is looking for especially if you majored in marketing. I was worst of the bunch i was soooooooooo enthusiastic it took the battering of my soul almost a year later to see what was happening. Alex has said it all, it was almost identical Only my leader who was very hard working and i really respected got fired because she fell pregnant i am sure this is discrimination on some level then again it was so physically demanding i think it was for the best really, but if we were self employed why was she fired?
We worked in all weathers including the pouring rain and cold in the dead of winter. days off were a taboo, you were punished if you took a day off by your efforts to build a team were frustrated or you just did not get acknowledged you had to WORK for that.by ringing the bell every day and being in the office kissing ass from 7 in the morning till mid-night for weeks.
The silliest thing i heard there was you would rest when you opened your own office and you could see family then as well. i cannot tell you how many friends i lost or how long it took me to have conversation with anyone in my family for weeks at a time. the bond thing was also an issue. we did not pay tax as self employed workers one was meant to sort this out yourself many never as they did not now how to plus like Alex said about the issue with dwindling sales and only getting paid 100-210 pounds a week one could not afford to and this landed a lot of people in trouble with the tax man.
I could go on. All i can say is i understand what Alex went through, and the total lack of self esteem i had after was debilitating. I can only hope that the woman who ran this particular office sees this and repents for i think she is a hypocrite and traded in human souls to keep her own pockets lined.
She even often used to say in the leaders meetings that the reason she hired those who did not do well was so she could pay her light bills. you see, the more people she had roaming the streets, even if we personally only made 10 pounds a day meant she got a hefty commission which kept her going the rest of us were mealy nothing really, our job as leaders was to do the dirty work of training someone who clearly was not impressed by being insulated on peoples doorsteps begging for charity money.
You see i meant to make this short but it is impossible, the last straw came when i realized my health had deteriorated i was anorexic, broke and at times my partner and i had to decide which of us had to skip work so at least one of us could afford the bus to work. Oh we were not allowed to be pissed off seriously if you were not seen with a smile on your face you were said to be negged out and a bad influence.so we faked happiness if i ever hear the word excited and fantastic again i will vomit.this was False positivity.
I realize now that Cobra is not the only job in the world available i have been in the job of my dreams for five months now but it took a lot to recover from that hell. i hope those who feel this is a good opportunity try but know when to recognize when they loose interest in building you and start pushing for more sales out of you this is usually two weeks later and if you are not financially stable to begin with do not even consider it.
As a concept on paper it seems to work, but then again so do all pyramid scheams.and you never get to the top of the chain. EVER
By the way she went on to have an affair with one of her chosen ones who did open an office but she fired after they had a domestic, the other only carried on because he had sacrificed too much then quit the moment he became one (he says it was to prove a point) she has been operating six years now and she has not had anyone promoted and keeps wanting to con the few who have persisted into giving up their teams to her. i don't know what she is trying to do.
