We stayed at the Old Court Hotel for one night recently. The booking was made in good time. When he booked my companion was first told that the hotel was full, then that there was one room available. In fact the following morning it was quite evident that the hotel wasn't full at all - we saw only one other guest at breakfast. My companion was shown a room at the time of booking, but this was not the room we were allocated. This room was extremely small and had a tiny shower room which had no towel rail or bath mat. The only mirror was situated above the lavatory. There was mould in the shower and on the wall next to the lavatory. I found it difficult to believe that the hotel had been refurbished recently - the window was in a very dilapidated state. The room was far from the light bright room shown on the website. We found there was no hot water to wash and I tried to boil a kettle. The washbasin was so small I couldn't fit the kettle under the tap. In the morning we tried the hot water again, but none available. We tried to ring down to reception but no reply, so my companion got dressed and went in search of the proprietor. He told us he had forgotten to turn the hot water on and would do so and the water would be hot in 5 minutes. Needless to say after 10 minutes the water was still stone cold so we went unwashed down to breakfast, where the proprietor gave us an extremely casual apology. Unfortunately we had paid in advance (£70) so felt we had little redress and none was offered.
