I wanted to cancel a leg of a flight from Durban to Johannesburg, on behalf of an overseas visitor who was returning to Europe. The reason for this was that I wished to show the visitor some of our country's sights, and we would drop her off at JHB's airport instead of in Durban. I phoned 5 days before the time, wishing to give BA a chance to sell the ticket to someone else.. I was told that to cancel the JHB to Durban leg would cost R1440. I objected, saying that it was immoral to be charged for actually saving BA money, and said that we would drop my visitor off in JHB to join the flight to Europe, without informing BA. The reply was that if I did this, the entire flight would be cancelled, and my visitor would be stranded. (TERMS AND CONDITIONS) I complained on line to BA and recieved acknowledgement of my complaint and nothing else. Having heard zilch, I phoned again to make the change and to my suprise was told that to make the cancellation of the DBN to JHB would now cost me R2100. Talk about inflation. I have paid this, but will never deal with BA again.
