I had recieved an e-mail stating that I was the winner of some natioal e-mail lottery that was run by the United Kingdom National Lottery/Camelot Group. I'm am by nature a skeptic so I did my home work. I always do when it comes to this kind of thing.
I wrote down all of the information that was available in the e-mail and searched it. This is what I found. First of all there is a United Kingdom National Lottery/ Camelot group, however it is in no way affiliated with the senders of this e-mail. Which makes this scam so beleiveable.
I also found multiple web sites that had letters and what not talking about this same exact e-mail that I had received. The names chaged and varied some what but the e-mail was the same.
I did reverse look ups on the phone numbers provided and they only brought me to more pages and links that talked about the scam. I also did reverse look ups on the physical addresses provided and they don't exist.
So basically yes this e-mail is a scam. Do Not give your personal information or fill out the "verification Form". Obviously. Even though upon studying it, it almost looks harmless. Seriously people do your home work. It's unfortunate that people do these types of things but the truth is you just don't get something for nothing. Beleive me I would love to beleive in the possibility that I could have won some random lottery just because my e-mail address exists, but it's not possible.
The only unfortunate thing about this is that there really is a " United Kingdom National Lottery/Camelot Group". They seem tohave a legitimate web page and everything, but they ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH THIS E-MAIL SCAM IN ANYWAY. I found the site and did my homework on them as well. The following are sites that they are affiliated with: National Lottery website, National Lottery Commission, Department for Culture / NLDF website, Heritage Lottery Fund.
In anycase thats the low down on this e-mail lottery scam, I hope it helps people not become victims. Good luck out there on the web with all the scammer crap!!!
