I am a Claims Manager for a large insurance company in Bournemouth. I was seriously deceived by Berger in February of this year when a smooth talking salesperson persuaded me to have a look at a report priced at only 3.45; when I got the cover letter and realised that the report cost, in fact, 345 I returned the report immediately; I should have known that the next step in this carefully executed deception is that they deliberately on purpose loose all non-recorded delivery mail. To cut a long story short, I paid up to stop the barrage of threatening letters asking me to provide proof of postage or else which ensued from continuing. I was very upset by all of this and had to take some time off work to calm down; to add insult to injury my employers gave me a formal warning for accepting the report in the first place.
I subsequently complained to Edinburgh Trading Standards and spoke with a most impressive and knowledgeable Trading Standards Officer by the name of Neil Geddes; he gave me chapter and verse on Berger and had in-depth knowledge about their operation, obviously dealing with their complaints on a daily basis and also informing me that the department had investigated them for years. I believe that somebody like Geddes would be invaluable to the current action and the DTI would be well advised to use him or one of his colleagues to give evidence (if theyre not already doing so). To be sure that they do, we need to let the DTI know that there is good input to be had from someone as professional as Geddes (or one of his superiors) and that he will be able to twist the knife particularly if there are concerns, as have been aired on this site, about the provenance of the data that is being collected. So lets all lobby the DTI to remember to include Edinburgh Trading Standards by calling them on 020 7215 3016 and lets help close down Berger by throwing all this evidence about their horrid conduct at them in Court like a bunch of rotten tomatos.
