Work at home scam! i sent off money thinking i would be working from home but as of yet i have not see any work England

I seen a advert in the local paper asking for people that would like to work from home, i jumped at the chance as i am off of work at the moment and needed some extra money to help pay bills. i sent off the rquired amount which was 30 and i received a letter back with a membership card, the letter said that i would be contacted by letter 3 days before the work would be handed out, and i would be able to get a refund on the money i sent after doing the first job, i had to let the delievery driver see my membership card and tell him it was my first lot of work and he would refund my money.
i have tried writing to them but i've had no reply as i wanted to know why i hadn't had any work.

i can't afford to just give up money as i need every extra penny at the money as i'm not getting any money.
i would be greatful if someone would be able to contact me and tell me how i get my money back and if there is anything i can do to stop other people falling for this type of scam.
