A1 National cancelled my booking at short notice, and refused to pay any compensation. They claimed that they were allowed to do this under their Terms and Conditions, which don't state anything of the sort. I think that their confirmation e-mail establishes a contractual agreement, so they become liable for 'Loss of Bargain' if they subsequently cancel (Wikipedia is helpful for the legal stuff). I didn't need to test this argument though, because they paid up once I took them to court (which is easy to do yourself via Money Claim Online).
