I first contacted Taxback in and it took them weeks to respond. According to HMRC, I had underpaid tax and owed a substantial amount. I knew this was an error and trying to explain this to Taxback would have taken forever, so I wrote to HMRC stating that they had made a error on a JSA claim. I assumed that my role with Taxback was over, and HMRC finally admitted that they had made an error. After five months, in May I received my cheque, which was addressed to me.
Next thing I know I received an email from Taxback saying that I, first owed them 50 and then 60 (12.5 percent). I had not heard from Taxback since September. Apparently, HMRC should have sent THEM the cheque, so they could take their fee. Thankfully, the cheque came to me. Taxback should accept that their service is piss poor, and they did nothing in these circumstances to obtain my refund.
I have also complained about HMRC to the Adjudicator's Office, as they are not accepting liability for their mistake, as Taxback are now out to sue me for the above amount, which I refuse to pay. HMRC run a piss poor service, as do Taxback. Avoid these people, as they are thieves.
