The following is the first email I received after I got a call about a positon as Key Accounts Manager position:

You will work from home until we open our US branch. This job is possible because our company has its headquarters in Taunton, United Kingdom. As such we do not yet have our offices in the US. Until we do we will always need representatives to take care of some financial matters. At this time we cannot accept direct payments and orders from our clients and customers.

Due to the local and international law the only way we can sell our insurance products internationally is to open local sales offices/branches (our 1st US office will be opened in New York in July and 7 more branches will be opened in 2012) or use a company representative for these purposes. That is why we are hiring you as our Key Account Manager. You will also assist our company in all collection efforts from non-paying customers in the US. You are a part of our team and you have full rights, authorized to negotiate, execute any agreement on behalf of our company.

This position is exclusively telephone-based until we open our US branch. This role does not require any amount of traveling, at least at this stage. You must have excellent negotiation and presentation skills, as well as effective verbal and written communication skills. To keep track of our multiple clients, you must be well organized, must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.

The problem we are facing is the time necessary for our company to receive the funds from bank transfers paid by our US customers after they have received our insurance services, it takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks to clear these funds in the UK. Being our Key Account Manager you would speed up the process tenfold. Please note that we do not deal with payments by cheque due to the safety reason and to fully protect our associates. We deal with bank wire transfer which is considered the safest, cost effective method to quickly transfer the funds.

We have already made a signed agreement with US officials and we are paying all the necessary taxes for our business. Also we do make background research on all our US customers before we sell our insurance products and/or services. In some rare case of any issue arising we guarantee to cover all the fees. This way you can feel absolutely protected and safe.

A valuable paid ongoing training will be provided when we open our US branch only. This training will not only help you improve in your current job, but will be considered highly valuable by any potential employers in the future.

US$ 725 per week is your!!! guaranteed!!! basic salary. The guaranteed salary is money that you will get no matter the circumstances. Plus you will receive 8% from each transaction you process. It will lead to the average pay of US$ 1, 525 per week.

I was extremely suspicious from beginning so I sent them all ficticious personal information so that I could learn more about the scam.

After this I was told that I should expect a phone interview as I was among a number of candidates for the job. The following morning I was called by a man from a California number and told I was the successful candidate. I was directed to a website where I filled out a form and was allowed onto a HR portal.

The following day I received my first assignment via the portal. I was told to go to the bank at precisely 9:00am to retreive a deposit. I was to take my weeks pay plus 8% and remit the rest to an account that was to be given to me on the same morning. At this point it became hillarious as I recognized exactly what these idiots was trying to achieve. I emailed them back telling them that because I work for a municipality I had to report all additonal jobs to the State attorney and the Police as it was a requirement of my job. Immediately I was disconnected from the portal and received an email that I violated the privacy rules and they could no longer work with me. I tried emailing the "HR Administrator Michelle Longley" but the emails returned as undeliverable.
