The Clifton Beauty Company
Medical Negligence

I went to The Clifton Beauty Centre to have a hair removal treatment done (electrolysis) on some facial hair that I have and I was promised to have no more facial hair after 3 or 4 sessions. After 8 sessions I could barely note any improvement and I decided to make this point to the clinic. I was then advised by the clinic manager, who also happens to be the person who actually gave me the treatment, to have the equipment power increased, so that it would be more effective. She then increased the power of the equipment in the following session and I left the clinic with blisters on my upper lip. The clinic manager told me it was normal and that I would have to give it some days to recover. I had a yellow liquid coming out of the wounds on my upper lip for days. Then the wounds dried out and I had scabs. After the scabs were gone, I remained with scars on those regions where the treatment had been done. I then went to a dermatologist to see if there was hope in getting rid of the scars. The dermatologist then advised me to come and see him within a month, because the scars were fresh and he was not in a position to confirm they would fade away. I came back after 1 month and he told me that the scars were quite deep and that extra treatment would be required in order to TRY to get rid of them, but that he could not guarantee anything, due to the high level of damage that had been caused by the treatment I received at The Clifton Beauty Company. I then came back to The Clifton Beauty Company to have a chat with the person who did the treatment (the manager) and she was not helpful at all, first because she didn´t know what to say or do (which caught me by surprise, because she is the manager). I suggested that she had a chat with the owner of the salon or her insurance company, so that she would be in a position to help me, since I still had the facial hair that I wanted to get rid of and also scars at the same region. After 2 weeks I finally got in touch with the clinic manager, who was keen to give me the money back for the treatment that I had in her clinic, but was not willing to help me with the scars that she had done on my face, saying that she could not be deemed responsible for what had happened. I then got a phone call from the clinic owner, who was very aggressive and treated me very badly, even suggesting that I had the scars done in another clinic, which is a very serious accusation. She also said that she would ask me and my husband to leave the clinic premises in case we decided to go there to try to talk to someone and get this problem solved. I am now having a laser hair removal treatment done on my face (at the same clinic where I got seen by the dermatologist) who also suggested that it might improve the situation of the scars as well, but cannot be sure before the end of the treatment. The dermatologist also confirmed that this type of laser won´t make the scars any worse, as said by The Clifton Beauty Company owner (another one of her accusations towards me). We are now seeking legal advice and will try to solve this issue in court. After the laser treatment (for the hair removal) is done, I will be assessed by the dermatologist once more in order to verify that it has been beneficial to the scars. If that is not the case, I will then have to have a specific treatment for the removal of the scars, which I expect The Clifton Beauty Company to pay for, as they are responsible for what happened to my face. My job consists of dealing with the public (I am a passenger service agent at Bristol Airport) and it has definitely affected my self-confidence and self-awareness.
