I booked the deluxe comfort lodge in edinburgh with agoda, it was the first time I had used Agoda, upon booking the price quoted jumped up by £10 but It was still cheap. I contacted Agoda 3 times re the fact that once booked I could not find reference to the named hotel anywhere on the net, so asked them tocheck it existed, etc, they gave me a mobile number and first name of the receptionist. Upon arriving at Edinburgh tuesday night we found the hotel did not exist, just a private house made into private apartments, after knocking on every door we found the guy who rented out the flat as a "hotel" on the top floor, behind what I can only be described as what looked like a squat. the room that was described as luxury, with ensuite, was a bare room in his flat, with no outside access, and no security, it had no curtains, kettle tv or toilet, it was a bed and scruffy dirty broken chair. it was nothing more than a squat. The house was occupied by his friends and family and there was nothing to show it was private, so anyone could have come in. And it had a bong outside that was obviously being used for a party or something going on when we arrived. We felt very unsafe and did not stay. Now I am trying to get my money back from Agoda, it cost us an additional £80 to stay in edinburgh and we lost the night looking for a hotel with vacancies, and missed our function. The whole experience has left us very bitter towards Agoda, they cost a fortune to ring, if you are outside thailand and you cannot post a review as it gets taken off if it tells the truth! dont trust them I wont ever again
