At approximately 4.50pm on 31st. January my wife and I were standing at the till checkout in
Menary's Bow Street Mall store in Lisburn. We were about to buy two luxury double bed duvets when an announcement came over the tannoy system. The message clearly stated a reduction of 70% across ALL departments. When I asked the assistant (who was very helpful about this), she confirmed this was correct but called to another Menary's employee, presumably for confirmation. This person sternly
replied that it was only 20% in Miss Selfridges, and that "if I had listened properly I would have heard this". As she walked away I called her back saying "Excuse me, but can I have a word with you about this? " I asked her name and she replied "Jenny". I told her I had listened carefully and so had my wife, who confirmed she heard the same message-70% reduction across all departments. I told her I found her comments extremely rude and aggressive and told here I would be taking this to Menary's head office. She then walked off and I told the other assistant I would not now go ahead with these purchases due to Jenny's rudeness to me and my wife. This helpful assistant told me she would never be rude like that to customers. My wife and I then sought out the assistant manager, Beverly and told her about this. I asked her to please confirm that there was in fact an announcement that was made about a reduction of 70% across all departments. She said she would check the recorded announcements and left. Upon her return she said that I had been"mistaken". I told her I was not mistaken, nor was my wife, and I asked for the announcements to be played, and this was done and Beverly then confirmed that one announcement stated "a reduction of 70% across all departments".
I wish to make a complaint about the rudeness, crassness and general disrespect that we were shown in Menarys today. I hope to hear from you as soon as possible concerning this complaint.
