I visited this salon as I thought the prices were going to be reasonable and they had set themselves up as a 'professional' hair salon. This couldn't be further from the truth.
I booked an appointment, and was told that it would cost a certain price with student discount, so I agreed to come in that same day. When the stylist was straightening my hair with the irons (and obviously doing a bad job) I mentioned that my hair would revert as soon as I stepped out of the door, and she agreed, telling me that she would use the hotter hair presser instead of her budget hair straighteners. For those of you who don't know, the hair presser is the standard hair straightener nearly all black hair salons use, as it is more suited to kinkier hair types.
The woman servicing me aka "I don't actually have any healthy hair but I'm an "expert" in black hair", did not mention anything about additional charges, and I had no reason to assume that there would be any for such a minor thing as using a higher temperature hair straightener suited to my black hair.
However, when it came to paying the bill, she started acting weird and shifty. I wondered why this could be, then it became clear: she was going to rip me off! She told me that she had given me a "thermal smoothing treatment" (i.e. used a slightly hotter hair iron), and that this would cost me an additional 30!
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Seriously, does this pathetic woman really make her living by ripping off poor students? She had also rushed through my appointment and given me a really bad haircut. Even I know, as an amateur, that it is best to cut the hair in small sections, rather than in big chunks. This is what she did to me, leaving my hair looking like an 80's mullet.
This place is the ultimate rip-off in London Afro salons. I hope that, for the sake of professionalism, this place gets SHUT DOWN asap!
