Youtube viewers can post racist comments or replies to You Tube videos, and the company displays these comments on their site. There is no monitoring of comments submitted or posted to the site nor (apparently) any repercussions for members who submit racist or homophobic remarks to the site. E.g a youtube account holder xXSlashBoiXx submitted the comment (1 week ago) "This guitar aint for metal u chink" in response to (http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=ZhbDQsuXa-k) a video of a Japanese man playing guitar. I've also seen homophobic remarks submitted and displayed on the site. As YouTube appears to operate a membership or account holder system, they should be able to monitor remarks submitted to the site.By not monitoring racism and homophobia You Tube risk becoming a forum prejudice and hatred. The company should refuse to sanction racism and homophobia by cancelling membership of repeat offenders and refusing to display offensive material.
