On March 7 we hired a car for 4 days from Car Hire UK. On February 21, just after the internet negotiations for the hire were organised, with quoted cost of 129.80 pounds another amount of 570 pounds was debited from my partner's credit card. After emails and phone calls and an assurance by email that the money had been reimbursed into the account we still have not received the money back. I am Australian and have been hiring cars for 40 years and have not experienced this before.
Could you advise the legalities of a company keeping this "deposit"? How long? The fraudulent information provided to us by the company, that is that the money had in fact been reimbursed.
