This company offered van hire with home delivery and collection. As I was moving house I decided to hire from them, one day rental. Vehicle arrived the night before which was nice although I wondered why I had paperwork from Hertz. Didn't think anything of it and managed to move house the next day and be at my new place by 5pm when collection was arranged. At 6pm no sign of the collection driver so called A1 and was told nobody was available but I was now responsible for returning it. "Return it to where? " I asked. "Hertz" he replied. But I'd rented it from A1 and they should be responsible. Was told it was none of their business now. But it got worse, the A1 rep threatened to call the police, report the vehicle stolen and have me arrested for theft if I didn't return it! I hung up and tried Hertz who said the only place still open where I could drop it off was London City Airport, a 35 mile trip from Gillingham. Four hours later I was home, vowing never again to use A1. And to cap it all, they still haven't returned my £250 security deposit despite the Hertz rep checking the vehicle over. I did some research and A1 National Van Hire does a deal with some other company beginning with 'P..' who in turn does a deal with another company called FOWND Ltd who in turn has a lease contract with Hertz! Too many middle men creaming off a few quid and potentially a legal mindfield in the event of a serious accident.
