We recently relocated from one part of the UK to another. Having explained in great detail to a company Called 'Company Moves', a professional removals company, that many of our possessions were valuable and fragile and that we needed adequate care and insurance to compensate us if things went wrong during our relocation, I failed to read the small print in their contract and insurance to ensure we were getting what we asked and paid for.
This is my fault I know, but like an idiot I fell for a slick sales pitch and verbal promises that all would be well and literally signed away our rights to fair compensation. And boy have we paid for it!
They damaged a number of valuable items, took 3 months to process the claim, failed to keep me informed at any point and then because I didn't notice all of the damaged items within 7 days (I took 14 days to uncover one of the damaged items), they managed to worm out of a fair settlement by hiding behind contractual small print. I have been offered just over 100 for damage of several hundreds of pounds to property worth several thousands of pounds. I asked for goodwill and some fair play to be taken into account, but their insurers just read the small print back to me again. No-one cared or budged an inch or even apologised.
It's 'caveat emptor' (let the buyer beware) with this company and my warning to anyone thinking of entrusting their wordly possessions to them is don't. They just don't care and your goods may as well be bags of coal.
