Yahoo! Limited
Sneaky underhanded billing Internet

I signed up to a yahoo service that alerts me with a text message to my mobile phone every time that an email enters a certain yahoo email account, this sevice costs 18 pence per message, here is where the problem starts. Yahoo! because they have priveleged access to my details know my email address and are sending me unsolicited advertising emails which I CANNOT BLOCK what this means is that when one of their messages enters my Yahoo Inbox I get charged 18 pence for Yahoo to then send me a notification text message to my mobile phone telling me about this unwanted advertisement FROM THEM! I realised after 3 months what was going on and found that i have been sent about 20 of these messages whcih adds up to about? 3.80 not a lot of money for one person to pay, but if they are doing this to hundreds of thousands if not millions of people, then you do the maths.

I complained to yahoo customer service with the letter below, their completely unacceptable reply, which totally ignored my complaint, follows. (by the way just for fun i was being a little bit pompous with them)

I am being abused by Yahoo, How?
Yahoo is charging me 18p for notifying
me about advertising which YAHOO is
sending me!!!. this is painfull in
two ways .. Firstly, i don't want
your intrusive advertising popping up
on my phone in the first place and
secondly to then to have to pay for
all of these unwanted intrusive
adverts is annoying humiliating and a
complete abuse of your company's
position! I would like a refund of
the money you have charged me and an
apology for such shoddy business
practice and don't be too sure that i
won't make a fuss about this on
natIonal radio, because though you may
have ripped me off for only 2 or 3
pounds, how many people across the
country/globe are you treating in this
same egregious manner! It must add up
to hundreds of thousand if not
millions of pounds.
I am unhappy about this situation by
the way.

Thanks for writing to Yahoo! UKIE Customer Care.

When you registered your first handypay message package you were informed that "when your account balance reaches 0 messages you will be charged at Pay per Text prices (? 0.18/? 0.20)".

This is why you have been charged for your messages. Because of this we are unable to do any refunds for messages that have been purchased. For further info on refunds and billing please refer to the Yahoo! Mobile
