I noticed a payment from PC Tools for £29.99 come out of my account today (10/05) and queried it with my bank. It transpires this is a charge for a subscription I DID NOT AUTHORISE yet upon trying to contact PC Tools/Symantec my emails bounced back (apparently I need a licence code to take my complaint further - how when I never subscribed to a renewal in the first place?). I found out that they have a Reading-based office so I called them to be told my complaint could not be taken further and I had to call their Canadian or Australian numbers (how convenient). They wouldn't even provide me with an email address as they said they 'didn't have one', which in this day and age I find ridiculous. My bank have agreed to stop the payment but I am concerned they will still attempt to take the payment again in a year's time (it appears it has been happening yearly since 2008 - I'm surprised I've only just noticed it but more fool me for not being so vigilant). I'm not sure where I now stand with this. As I cannot contact the company I cannot view the terms and conditions I would have agreed to upon purchasing the original product. My bank have advised me to take this to the Trading Standards office in the UK. Does anyone else have any further advice? I can see this is a global phenomenon by the sheer amount of other people complaining about this very matter on this site, and I'm thinking of starting an awareness campaign but am afraid of the potential backlash (Symantec are a big company). Any advice?
