I'm appalled by the service I have received from Avis.
I'm a Wizard card holder and preferred service client and always use Avis for car rentals- I won't anymore.
I arrived at Waterloo station (London) at 3.05pm on May 18 only to find it closed, with an online confirmation stating 4pm closing time. The sticker on the door posts a 1pm closing time on Saturdays.
On discovering this, I called every Avis number I could find and was told that I should get to Victoria station but systems are down and they couldn't help further. I got to Victoria station at 3.55pm, running on an injured foot. Guess what? Branch closed!
So I had no choice but to rent from Europcar next door who were thankfully open. The cheapest rental at short notice and with no stock was? 221.14! I have emailed Avis international who claim as i am South African, i must take it up in South Africa - i have - they have been helpful, but impotent. The UK state it was an unforeseen circumstance that caused them to close early. Nonsense - the times are posted on the door-it just so happens that the website and confirmation don't agree with the branch. As a customer, I lose out. Pathetic
