I unfortunately have made the biggest mistake of believing maybe the bad times were over... I recieved a letter stating I had won 50, 000 dollars, and in order to recieve it I needed to call within 14 days of the letter. Curious and a little sceptical I called the number on the letter, I talked to a man by the name of Richard Self, if that is his real name, and was asked to confirm my address, name, and that was it... no other information was requested from me. He than told me that I would be recieving another letter in the mail in about 14 days. Couple weeks went by and forgot about the whole thing. Until I was checking the mail just this last week, and recieved a letter with a "Cashers Check" in the amout of 3100 dollars.
I ignored what the letter said about contacting them and went to the bank it was drawn off of which was Washington Mutual. They informed me it was because the check came in my maiden name that they were unable to cash it. So I figured if it was real enough for them I would stick in my account... BIG mistake, my bank deposited the check into my account (after running the numbers on the bottom of the check) which made the funds automatically avalible. I thought that if there were no red flags when they ran the numbers, then everything must be on the up and up...
Was I wrong, two days later I was balancing my check book and went online to verify numbers when noticed my account was negitive, which is rare. I called the bank and was informed the check that I had deposited into my account drew up some red flags so the money that I thought I had in my account was frozen. In my frustration I called Mr. Self to inform him of the consiquences of his actions he then hung up on me... I would like to nail these people to the wall, I not only feel like an idiot, but I feel like they are laughing at us for being so nieve...
