Ok where to start.
I worked for DCG Marketing for just over 6 months. When I seen the ad in the paper I thought to myself that's far too good to be true, that I could make min of 360-750 awk!!! But hey I rang the number and was greeted by a nice girl on the other end, she took my name and said come on in for an interview. (Weird thing was she didn't even ask me to bring a CV with me).
When I arrived for the interview the office was full of people doing the same thing as me, looking very scared and worrying that it was all going to go wrong in the interview. I filled a few forms in and was greeted by a tall slim well dressed man called David. (Turns out he is the managing director) I was in the interview with one other person, which I found very weird. David talked about the business and how much money could be made, and how far he had come in the last few years.
To be honest he really talked about himself a lot and never really asked us many questions. Once the interview was over we where told to come back for an observation day! Not knowing what that was I agreed anyway and came back a few days later. I was dressed in 3 inch heels and didn't know that the business was knocking on doors in some of the most run down estates in NI. At this time the office was in High Street, we left there and I was taken to the Markets in Belfast, were this small Scottish man was telling me how great this job was, how much money was to be made and how great he was.
At no point was I told its 100% commission, and when it came to hours of work I was told 'come in for 11 and go home at 8.30pm', to me that sounded ok as you get a lie in and you can still have a life when you go home. This is not the case though. After my ob day I was told I could join the team I thought great I must have stood out. The following wk I started at DCG Marketing.
My First day was good fun everyone seemed to be having a laugh and everyone seemed to get along. Only thing was no one said hello you just had to stand there and wait for someone to tell you what to do or where to go. When someone did talk to me I had no idea what they where talking about and soon became bored.
As the days went on I started to worry that I was making no money, I was following this small Scot around house after house after house and we where getting no where at all. When I arrived back in the office that night my concerns where put to David. I was then given more training as that was the key and my sales did pick up. I was then promoted to Leader in my first full wk and I thought this was great I was having the time of my life. I was having great days and no one could stop me. Only thing was when I went to get my first wage after 2 wks 40% had been taken of me!
Why you ask well it may be 100% commission but money gets taking of every sale you do and put into a bond. I was very shocked at this and wanted to find out more. I was told the basics and no doubt only a small part of the process and was made to feel stupid for asking. So you may off thought that was all taking off you but no, they take 1 off every sale you do as well. Now the title for this is Research and Development, this money is used to take people in the office away on trips around the world, thing is you need to be a high roller (doing more sales than anyone else) or doing something that gets the managements attention to get the benefit of this money.
Now don't get me wrong I went on trips myself and they where a lot of fun and all was paid for, only thing I had to do was sit though a few meetings and then go and get drunk. Happy days. Even with the credit problems in the world people in the office where still making money. Only thing was the whole time I was working for the company I never made over 300 in my hand in one wk.
As the months pasted a lot of people came and went, and a lot of people that should off been sacked months before where still causing problems in the office, for everyone. A lot of the people who where hired where people who had never had a job in their life and where from backgrounds that you just wouldn't even what to mention on this network. These people you could not trust to sell water to the sea. This made me feel like I was only hired to help someone else in the office to get prompted, and they would hire anyone to get a foot up the ladder themselves. So really there was nothing special about me and I got the job because I could talk, walk and knock on doors.
So, so far you work from 10/10.30am right though to 10/10.30pm or even later every day and a so called half day on a Saturday where you go in at 9.30am and get back to the office for 5 pm (or later again) and a Sunday off. You get 40% taken out of your wage ever wk and lose a 1 on every sale. You work with hoodies from both sides of the street. If you have a car you have to drive other people in the office around, and you get made to feel like a horrible person for asking them to help with fuel money, it gets left a mess because the people you have in the car don't respect it and leave it full off rubbish, food, bottles, gum, they burn seats cause they cant wait half hour to get a smoke.
If you are not hitting the standard in the office you are put in the dumb group and made to work together without any help. Office rule quote 'I only help the people who are doing well, the new people and the rest can do what they want' unquote. This is what management in the office does. If you don't ask for help your unless and made to feel like crap or a donkey which was one from a few wks ago, were we were made to make donkey noises. If you're having a bad wk in the office and you ask for help you're not entitled to it. All off this crap and a lot more than I haven't mentioned can only lead to one thing LEAVING.
But think twice before you do cause you could end up screwed over just like I did. I have left and have been told am not being paid!!! Not only that the nice managing director ended up getting aggressive with me on the phone and called me names.
Little advise to someone who wants to leave you wages gets paid two weeks ahead, so what you want to do is start slowing down on the sales maybe do 1 a day and say you have family problems and your head isn't in it at the mo, and then take sick the following wk, when you come to the following Monday go in do no sales and get your wage on the wed and just don't go back. I didn't think about it and just left but plan you're leaving.
