My husband received a letter from Diamond Financial Services, Inc. International Claims Department stating that he had won $250, 000 in a UK Lottery. We called the number of Dean Ashton 011447722662630 and were greeted with "Hello". I verified our mailing address and in a few days he received a check in the amount of $4, 997.50 with a letter stating that he needed to pay $2995.00 for the UK government taxes and insurance - directly to the tax agent assigned to us, but that we should not proceed until calling Dean Ashton at the same phone number listed above. The letter also stated that he would receive the final lump sum payment of $254, 002.50 by FedEx. The letter was signed by Mrs. Jacqueline Ryback - Promotions Manager. I did call Dean Ashton and he told me to deposit the check and call him back for instructions on how to send the funds ($2995) via Western Union.
At that point I deceided to do some research, particularly since the letter and check arrived in a poorly handwritten envelope. The check looked official BUT it was written on JP Morgan Chase Bank in Coumbus OH. After researching, I found there is no JP Morgan Bank in or near Columbus OH. The name of the issuer was Diamond Trust, Inc. which I discovered does not exist. The address listed for Diamond Trust, Inc, as 71 Strandtman Cove in Austin Texas is the address of Borden Milk Products, a legitimate business.
I intend to report this to the FTC;whether it will do any god remains to be seen. These practices are deplorable and it would be great if these people could be prosecuted.
