John Albert has postings on craigslist.com for a tutor for his daughter for this summer. I replied to the ad because I have been tutoring for major companies for 3 years now. The understanding was that his daughter did not live with him, but was coming to the United States with her nanny and other sibilings for the summer. John wanted his daughter tutored for 1 month in Math, Language, Science, and Social Studies. He took all my contact information and even called and left a message on my phone. He constantly emailed me everyday letting me know updated information about my payment and the tracking number if I wanted to track it myself. The package arrived by the DHL truck to my front porch and when I opened it, the check was written from The University of Colorado and signed by Holly Thompson. John wanted me to cash the check and deduct the nanny's portion and western union it to the nanny at a United Kingdom address. I felt deeply that this was a fraud, but I took the check to my bank and of course, they placed a 10 day hold on the check until it cleared. In about six days, I received a letter from my bank stating that the check was counterfeit and then my bank account was charged for processing the check. Please beware if you run into one of his ad's on the internet. This situation could have been worse, and I do not want it to happen to anyone else.
