Is a SCAM!!! Sent a fraudulent check!!!

Education & Science

This fake company is advertising themselves on Job boards, specifically for me, on CareerBuilder.
They sent me an email saying that I was hired for the customer service associate position and that they would be paying me $400 a week to mail their catalogs to educational institutions in the US.

They do not tell you everything in one email either, they have you answer one question and tell you that they will give you further instruction in the next email.
After verifying my address with them, they send me an email saying that they have sent inbursement to purchase stamps to mail the catalogs, which I have not even recieved.

I get another email the next day saying: This is to notify you that there was a missed up at the accounting department with the payment sent to you. The payment that was sent to you is $3650 and the imbursement payment should be $490 and not $3650 that was sent to you. The $3650 was supposed to be sent to our shipping agent. As soon as you receive the payment, Take the payment to the bank and cash it immediately. Then send the balance back as follows through western union money transfer. $400 out of the money is one week advance payment for you the rest $90 met to buy USPS stamps.
After getting this email... I become leary. So I send them a reply asking why I can't just send the check back and they send me another one with the correct amt. I never got an email response back.

Almost 2 weeks later, I recieve the check in the mail for $3650. The check looks so real with the watermarks and everything.

On the very bottom of the check it said: Issued by: MoneyGram Payment Systems Inc.

So what did I do? I called MoneyGram to see if the check sent was an actual check. I gave them the serial# and told them the date that the check was issued which was on 4-25-08.

They then asked me what bank was on the check; it was US Bank.

The lady on the phone then told me that they stopped processing for US Bank in the beginning of March. So that let me know right there that the check was FRAUDULENT!!!

Please, do not ever cash any check from persons or companies you do not know or or not familiar with. And if you want to make sure always go through the process of making sure that the check you get is real.
