Pressured into contract

After two months of phone calls from phones 4 u i stupidly gave in to upgrading my old contracts against my better nature, even though i had repeatedly told them to stop calling me as i did not want any upgrades.

anyway the same day i was told i no longer had a job. the next day i phoned phones 4 u and told them i had changed my mind and was told that it was too late as it had already been prossessed and they could not change it. 4 days later i received two new phones which said next day delivery on the packages.this annoyed me so i sent them straight back unopened at a cost of £12.80 .I then phoned them up and told them what i had done and that i no longer could afford them due to losing my job. They told me that they would send them back to me even though i dont want them and that i still have to honour the contract even though it was only verbal.

My opinion is that i have given them plenty of notice and that i have signed nothing. Am i right and can they threaten me with legal action if i refuse to pay for something that i did no longer want and have not used.
