Arianna Sonnenfeld
Craigslist Scam for a 15 inch MacBook Pro Western Union Money in Minutes transfer / Denver Colorado

Internet & Web

Arianna responded to my inquisition for a Macbook Pro that was for sale. I wired the money, felt funny about it, and google searched TNT reviews. A usaconsumercomplaints.com review was exactly- verbatum for every email of what my situation was. Luckily the bank that I transferred the money via Western Union reversed the wire transfer and gave me back all of my money. Here's the email chain. Beware of Craigslist scammers! They're aweful!

Arianna,

It pains me to know that there are people out there that take advantage of other people. It comes down to instinct, and I instinctively felt that this was a shoddy transaction and found the exact same scheme on my google search.

Please be informed that we have filed a case with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation thru InfraGard on this transaction. All e-mails, web site addresses, and transfer information has been recorded and forwarded to the investigators.
Addionally, we will open a case with CraigsList and inform them of your scam to block futher transactions.

Ok, so I just read the instructions.

Here is our address:

Ship to:

xxxxxxx

So, I guess that I just wait for TNT to send me an email with the payment instructions, and we'll go from there!

Phase 2: Transaction - 8 easy to follow steps.

1. The Buyer will provide the Seller with his shipping information.
2. Seller will go to a TNT Location and will leave the merchandise in TNT's custody with the Buyer's name and address as the intended receiver.
3. TNT will make a complete verification of the merchandise, and TNT will also verify the legal papers of the merchandise.
4. TNT will send to the Buyer a written confirmation that the package is in TNT's custody and also, that the package content has been verified and it is ready to be delivered to the Buyer's shipping address. In this delivery notification TNT will also send a complete description of the merchandise, with detailed specifications of the merchandise.
5. At this point TNT will send a complete set of payment instructions to the Buyer, instructing the Buyer on how to make the money deposit to TNT, to the name of the TNT Agent responsible with the transaction. The Buyer and the Seller will receive a Reference Number that identifies their specific transaction.
6. The Buyer will complete his/her payment following the specific instructions sent to the Buyer by our TNT Customer Service. TNT will verify the payment information provided by the Buyer, and after the payment is received by our TNT Payment Service, TNT will deliver the package to the Buyer's shipping address.
7. The Buyer receives the package and verifies the merchandise. After the Buyer verifies the merchandise - and only if the Buyer is completely satisfied with it because the merchandise matches the description sent by the Seller - the Buyer will instruct TNT to release the payment to the Seller.
8. If for any reason, the Buyer will not be satisfied with the package content, the Buyer will return the merchandise to TNT with no expense, no questions asked. In this instance the Buyer will receive a full refund from TNT with funds taken from the Seller's Trust Fund.

Arianna,

Thank you for your response. I am really interested in purchasing this computer. Obviously the transaction is not a normal craigslist situation. Can you tell me as much as you can about the computer before we move forward. Specs? How old is it? Have you had any problems with it that might need to be serviced? Is there any software included? How does the service work, I will get to examine the laptop before I authorize the payment to go through? Sorry, I've never done this before!

Thanks!

Kelly

Hi
Yes I still have the laptop. But there is something that I didn't mention in the post.
Please bear with me on this. I am now in United Kingdom. I have been relocated here with my work several months ago. I don't need the laptop anymore so I tried to sell the laptop locally, but with no luck. I was offered silly money for the laptop because of issues like - it is a US version or the warranty doesn't work here or that it has a US keyboard format. That's why I'm trying my luck in the US.
Since I can't meet you and make the exchange, I found a service that will help us with that. Click on the link below to learn more about the service:
TNT is a worldwide delivery company but it is better known here in the UK. You can see from their procedure that you will be able to check the laptop before I receive the payment. In this way the both of us can be at ease. I will use 2 day delivery on my expense.
Thanks
