Virgin Media
Charging late payment fee when changing from one direct debit to anothe

Internet & Web

I had direct debit set up with Virgin Media to pay for my Internet access, and they just charged my account every month without problems. I then told them to move direct debit to another account. Both accounts were active, and had money on them all the time.

For some reason Virgin Media decided that it's a good idea to charge me month later and add a 10 GBP late payment fee on top of my bill. Both accounts were active, had money on them all the time, and if they didn't have time to arrange direct debit with my new bank they could still charge my old account. No other utility I had direct debit with (gas, electricity, water, gym) made me any problems because of the switch, and Virgin Media never mentioned that switching an account could get me a late payment or any other fee.

It's just 10 pounds, so it's not the really the money I care about here, but I wonder how many people are charged like that, with this or other unfair fees. It wouldn't surprise me if they made millions this way.
