SCAM CALLING

Computers & Services

I was contacted by someone from MICROSOFT TECH CARE today threatening dire consequences if I did not allow them to remove 1652 'junk' files from my PC. He claimed my PC was jamming the Global Router Server. What was he referring to, how does this happen and how can it affect other systems. He said if I allowed him to control my PC he would remove the 'infected' files that my Norton antivurus can't see. Is this a scam?

I agreed to download some software from his web site (www.microsofttechcare.com) after he quoted my Windows serial number and got me to check that it was a match. This allowed him to control my PC remotely. He showed me the offending files in c: WINDOWSinf and indicated he could clean this up and get my PC to run quicker (it has been slow lately). A payment of £79 was mentioned but I terminated his phone call when I could not get him to explain the terms of this 'support' contract.

Should I be concerned about this. If so how do I go about fixing it
