Ripoff failure to cover required replacement of engine components

Jaguar designed the engine for the XK8 starting in 1997. It was designed to be light to enhance performance. As a result some components were under-designed.

Case in point, the timing chain tensioners. They were originally made of plastic. This was a recipe for disaster. They usually would last less than 35, 000 miles. Resulting damage could be as extensive as a seized engine.

They have gone through two re-designs in the intervening years, the most recent being a part that is finally made of metal, performance issues aside, apparently.

The minimum cost of this fix is approximately $3000.00 USD. Jaguar Cars Limited has been aware of this problem for years but has made no attempt to take responsibility for it and issue a recall. Apparently they want vast amounts of money not only for the purchase of their vehicles but also want to ensure that their repair facilities have a guaranteed winfall.
