Autoglass Windscreens

On 20/08 an Autoglass engineer came to my place of work to replace a cracked windscreen.

Having removed the cracked windscreen he discovered a small (1cm square) area of rust in one corner. As a consequence Autoglass refused to either fit a new windscreen or replace the old one.

They explained that the small area of rust may cause the windscreen to crack again in the future. I explained that I was prepared to accepted this risk and that I would have the problem resolved by a body repair specialist at the earliest possible opportunity. However, in order to do this I would need to drive the car and as such wanted the new windscreen to be fitted. I was prepared to accept full responsibility for any risk associated with doing this. I also needed the car to get home that night.

Even when I explained that I would have to drive the car home without a windscreen (surely more dangerous than one that might crack again) they still refused to do anything. So I subsequently had to drive my car approximately 20 miles without any windscreen.

Their customer services department were totally unsympathetic and inflexible.

Considering the small amount of rust involved the problem could have been solved with a piece of emery paper and rust killer. Could Autoglass not equip their engineers accordingly?

Do not use Autoglass for your windscreen repairs or you could get very wet driving home!
